How do you play with colour?
.
Me? I'm a mix-it-on-the-canvas type of person. I find that some of my prettiest colour combinations come from squeezing the paint (straight from the tube) on top of the many layers of my paintings. I never know what is going to shine through.
.
Even though my paintings are typically full of colours, I am really inspired by erosion and decay and places where time is made visible. Peeling paint, rusting pipes, and changing landscapes are all stored in my database (brain) to spill out in each painting.
.
I like creating a little archaeology of my process. I apply layers and scrape them back and start again. Marks and colours are buried, revealed, eroded and found again. Each painting carries traces of what has come before, like a visual history.
.
I hope you can see it too!
