The Silver Swan made me stop

The Silver Swan made me stop

Music began tinkling, and the Silver Swan lifted her head.

Light flickered off her silver feathers as her neck moved — precise, mechanical, and somehow still completely alive. Even though we all knew it was mechanics making her move, in that moment, it felt like magic.

As I wandered around the Bowes Museum, it struck me how decades later, creating with care and attention still has the power to instil wonder. Experiencing beauty really can change us when we pause long enough to take a look.

It made me think about the slow, intuitive ways I create my art. Layers are built over days, sometimes months, slowly painting a textural history into each piece.

Taking a lot of time is intentional. It’s the same pause I hope someone feels when they live with one of my paintings in their own space.

I love to hear when people tell me a piece stops them in their tracks and makes them look closer, and often they see something different each time.

What I hope starting your art collection with just one of my paintings offers is that lingering pause that helps you recalibrate for a short moment.

If you feel curious, I'd love for you to take a look at the originals I have on offer. Notice which piece makes you stop and look again.

P.S. If one does, I’d love to know — what caught your attention? The colour? The texture? The shapes? Something else?
